Dr Kelly Bin Kong - Kongs Acupuncture

Where it All Began

My story and journey with Kong’s Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Clinic and as a passionate healer began in China, my home country. As a child, I grew up in the city of Shanghai, during that time I suffered from seasonal allergies, and anyone with allergies knows how much this can affect your day-to-day life. My parents used to take me to consult with a Traditional Chinese Medicine Doctor and the results were never disappointing, quite the opposite, in fact, they were excellent. This is where my curiosity and passion for healing really began. By the time I had finished my high school education, I knew that I wanted to help people the way that I had been helped and that meant studying to become a Traditional Chinese Medicine Doctor myself.

My Dream

In order to realize my dream, I applied to study at the exclusive leading medical college in Shanghai Municipal institutions of higher learning, the Shanghai University of TCM. The day I was accepted as a student was a day I will never forget, my dream to help people – and I mean really help people – was within my grasp and I was willing to do whatever it took to grab it and run with it.

After 5 years of long hours and grueling training in Chinese Herbal Medicine; Acupuncture and Biomedicine I graduated. In 1994 my hard work and determination paid off, I obtained my bachelor’s degree in Medicine from China’s most prestigious University of TCM and was afforded an honor given to outstanding graduates. Thereafter, I was assigned to the training hospital of the university, Shanghai Longhua Hospital, one of the top Traditional Chinese Medicine hospitals in China, where I worked as a resident doctor and a trainer for the studying students.

The time spent in the fast-paced hospital molded me into the doctor that I am today and ensured that I gained much clinical experience working in various hospital departments.

My Adventure and Accolade in South Africa

After three years of service in the hospital, I felt that it was time to forge a new path in my journey as a doctor and healer. At this time I decided to relocate to Johannesburg, South Africa in 1997 and open my very own Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Clinic.

Kong’s Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Clinic.

This new adventure meant that I would have the opportunity to serve and help a large and diverse community in achieving successful outcomes in their health goals through Traditional Chinese Therapy. During this period, I became the foremost promotor of TCM in South Africa and was invited to speak by many interviewers on national TV and radio stations.

In December 2017 I was honored to be elected as an Executive Member of the World Federation of Acupuncture-Moxibustion Society (WFAS) due to my contribution to the development of TCM in South Africa and further served as the chairperson of the South African Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Association (SAACMA) from 2015 till 2019.

My Current Chapter

During 2020, after years of separation from my children who were studying in Texas, I knew it was time to reunite with them and begin a new chapter in our lives as a family. South Africa was meaningful and brought me great satisfaction as a healer and servant. Leaving was bittersweet as I had formed close relationships with so many of my patients, who I still hold dear. I relocated to the United States to join my family in Fort Worth, Texas and opened Kong’s Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Clinic.

My Passion, My Purpose, and Kong's Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Clinic

After nearly 30 years of clinical practice, I have gained vast experience in various health conditions such as pain management, female/male infertility, anxiety, depression, skin disorder, digestive disorder, paralysis, sinus, allergy, and much more. In my client, Kong’s Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Clinic, I do not just treat symptoms. No, I treat the person as a whole and root out the cause and ensure my patients receive not only treatment for their ailments. They are taught to manage their ailments and their very often deep-seated causes holistically, so that the ailments do not return with a vengeance. My patients strive forward in confidence, without fear of the future.

My patients as more than just a number, I see human beings with hearts and souls knowing that life is hard and traumatic for all people in their own way. Also, I understand that with the right treatment, patience, kindness, and compassion that any mountain in one’s journey to health can be climbed and conquered. I will go the extra mile to get them there because I really do care and I want my patients to be victorious!

In my practice, Kong’s Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Clinic, I follow the principle of “With a kind heart and good skill, a healer can offer the optimal service to their patients”.

But, most of all I believe that the best reward as a healer is my patient’s continued well-being in body, mind, and soul.
